As of July 1, 2010, the banking sector in Georgia is represented by 19 commercial banks, including 13 foreign-controlled banks and 2 branches of non-resident banks. Compared to the previous month total assets of Georgian commercial banks (in current prices) increased by 407.2 million GEL (by 4.6 percent) and constituted 9214.7 million GEL.

The FINANCIAL -- Fitch ratings says in a new report that the future development of the Georgian banking system should be less high-risk than the sector's rapid pre-crisis growth due to banks' generally less aggressive business strategies and somewhat more balanced funding structures
